At the recently held Education Institute in Nampa, Idaho the Idaho Association of Building Officials (IDABO) recognized Robert Ankersmit, Building Official for Kootenai County as the “Building Code Official of the Year” for 2012.   IDABO bestows this honor each year on a building code official who has made a significant contribution to the building profession.

Mr. Ankersmit has been a notably significant force in the IDABO Chapter in the northern part of the state – the North Idaho Code Enforcers (NICE).  For a number of years he has successfully organized continuing education for numerous jurisdictions, contractors, consumers and for both his local Chapter and at the statewide level.  Looking to the future Ankersmit is adamant about including students from the local colleges to participate in these seminars.

Ankersmit is also a member of the North Idaho Uniformity Group.  This organization meets on a regular basis to discuss consistency in implementing code interpretations and code enforcement.

As the Kootenai County Building Official, he sets an outstanding example for the public as well as his internal staff.  He has over 15 professional certifications in his field and works diligently to motivate others to obtain continuing education and professional expertise.

Ankersmit was honored by his peers at the Education Institute held in Nampa, Idaho this year.  This four day event was attended by over 200 building industry professionals, including code officials, contractors, design professionals and suppliers.  The vote for his nomination and award was unanimous.
