IDABO Holds Annual Education Institute
Honors Building Official of the Year

The Idaho Association of Building Officials (IDABO) held their 23rd Annual Education Institute last month. This four day training concentrates on providing educational seminars on the International Codes to building officials, inspectors, design professionals and contractors.

During the event IDABO honored Dan Hunter, Building Official for Canyon County, as the 2013 Building Official of the Year. This honor recognizes members of IDABO who have made a significant contribution to the building profession.

Dan was nominated by his peers because of his demonstrated leadership within the IDABO organization and throughout Idaho in promoting building and public safety through code adoption. He currently serves as a Board Member to the Idaho State Building Code Board, has served as President for two years of the Building Safety Professionals of Southwest Idaho (a chapter of IDABO) and was elected President of IDABO last month.

He has provided leadership through serving on the Energy Code Ambassador Program (ECAP), as the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) liaison, chairing the Public Relations, Government Affairs and Circuit Rider Program committees and working to build liaison with other construction related groups, the state and jurisdictions.

Dan has served as the Building Official for Canyon County for the past decade as well as acting Development Services Director twice while the county searched for a permanent director. He was the Building Official and Planning Director for Clearwater County, Idaho prior to coming to the Treasure Valley.

Hunter was honored by his peers at the Education Institute held in Boise, Idaho this year.  This four day event was attended by over 201 building industry professionals, including code officials, contractors, design professionals and suppliers.  The vote for his nomination and award was unanimous.

IDABO offers this training event because the Idaho state law requires that buildin10officials and inspectors be certified under the ICC Codes and by ICC. IDABO works hard to provide the continuing education courses needed for city and county building inspectors to meet these certification standards.

Recent past award winners include:

Bob Ankersmit, Building Offical, Kootenai County

Ed Wagner, Building Official, Coeur d’Alene

Russ Goyen, Building Inspector, Idaho Falls
               Charlie Allen, building Official, Ammon
               Carol Alexander, Building Official, Moscow

IDABO was established in 1958 and is an award winning chapter of the International Code Council. Currently it has over 600 members from the building industry, including city, county and state department employees.
